Ibis Birmingham New Street Station

Our sizeable group has been staying here for an extended stretch across several rooms. The rooms are small but comfortable, and the bathrooms in our rooms and in the lobby are clean. The showers have strong pressure and get properly hot. Breakfast comes with the stay and has a nice range of choices. You can also ask for eggs cooked how you like them. Ingrid is so friendly and genuine that every question or request feels easy, and she makes you feel at home even when you're halfway across the globe.

This bonus break has been a really enjoyable stay, and everything felt comfortable and well organised from the moment I arrived. The room was very clean and had all I needed. Ed, the Front Office Team Leader, was professional and supportive. Ingrid also deserves a mention for keeping an eye on me at breakfast and checking that everything was alright. I really appreciated her care. I'm still here and check out tomorrow, but I'd gladly return even if I had to pay myself. Highly recommended.

I spent five nights at IBIS Birmingham, New Street, and was very impressed with how the place is run. The whole team treated me with hospitality, care and respect. Reception, housekeeping, restaurant and bar staff were professional and polite. Raju, a restaurant waiter, and the girls at reception went out of their way to help even with things outside their usual roles. I also saw Manager Ed working extremely hard, almost around the clock, supporting guests and colleagues. He leads by example. The security staff member on late duty even helped me with an issue unrelated to the hotel, though his role was simply to provide security. Staff know the city well and can point you in the right direction. The location is a real advantage. The hotel is in China town, a lively area, within walking distance of the main train station, City Centre, Bull Ring Mall, Council Hall, City Library, Historical Church, grocery stores, restaurants and pubs. Birmingham International Airport is 10-14 minutes away by train, with trains leaving every 4 minutes minimum and 10 minutes maximum. Knowing so many key places were walkable gave me real peace of mind. I've stayed at many IBIS hotels around the world, and without hesitation this is the best one I've found. The training and standards set by management must be very good to keep a business running this well. It's also not an expensive hotel, so it feels well worth the money. I'd strongly recommend it to travellers. Thank you to the entire team.

The room was the letdown: the walls were thin, there was a gap under the bathroom door big enough for my hand, and mould was starting to form in the bathroom. That needs serious attention. Staff were friendly when I spoke with them, and I had no real issue with them. The lobby is nice and the location is the hotel's strongest point, about five minutes from the train station and city centre, so getting around is easy. It was an okay stay, though a bit overpriced in my view. I suppose the location explains the cost.
