The place felt gross, and the staff weren’t pleasant either. I saw homeless people outside arguing and searching around the car park, and people smoking crack from a pipe in a doorway by the back car park. I also often saw 3 men in balaclavas riding a moped through the car park, and wondered what they were looking for. You might expect to pay for what you get, but when there’s an NEC event, rates are upwards of 100£ a night. That’s disgusting for a place where I felt at risk of being stabbed with a needle. A bed is a bed, but if you have any class, you won’t be OK staying here. Save yourself the money.

There’s plenty of parking and the hotel is easy to reach. The room was basic but fine for a night, with a comfortable bed and enough space for a cot. The road noise got much louder around 5.30/6 because of the location.

The walls are paper thin, and although the room was clean, there were stains on the floor, chipped walls and a toilet that wouldn’t flush. For somewhere meant to be a refurbished Travelodge, we expected standards closer to the Premier Inn and were disappointed. It meets very basic needs, but I wouldn’t stay again.

The room was clean, warm and OK, but we felt too vulnerable to stay again. We found that our key opened the door between the bar and the hotel as well as our room. It made us wonder whether one key could open every room in the hotel. Safe or not, we weren’t comfortable with it.
