Royal Oakwell Hotel

After a long day celebrating the football win, a quiet place was just what we needed. The hotel is a bit dated, but clean and tidy, and the bed was clean and very comfortable. The shower was nice and hot too. At £40 a night, we were very happy and would stay here again.

As soon as we entered reception, there was an awful smell throughout the hotel, which wasn't welcoming. The room wasn't too bad, but it could've been better. A kettle and milk sat on a shelf above the radiator, and the milk had gone funny because the radiator had been on before we arrived. The bathroom was very small and cold. The window wouldn't shut properly because there was bird poo in the runners, and the shower was tiny. We were given two towels the size of hand towels. There was no hairdryer or iron, though there was an ironing board in the wardrobe. These things should've been stated online. The owner was very rude. Our telly wasn't working, but I heard him threatening another guest with calling the police and having him thrown out just for reporting that his telly was broken too, so I didn't bother mentioning ours. On the second night, part of the hallway ceiling had fallen in, leaving a hole. The owner cleaned it up and left without warning other guests, even though more could have fallen and caused an injury. The photos online are nothing like the rooms in person. The hygiene rating is 5, but dates back to 2013. I'd suggest another visit to keep people informed about what they're booking before they waste their money. I'd stay far away from this hotel.

The host was amazing and so attentive, and Dean was especially lovely with my toddler. This is the best place we've stayed. Couldn't ask for anything more, 10/10 ☺️

The rooms were kept very clean and tidy, and the service was especially amazing. The location is really good too, as you can see the sea as soon as you step outside.
