The Caledonian Tower Hotel

The evening meal is three courses, with three choices on the menu to tick off. The choices can be a bit hit and miss, though. Breakfast is self-service, with a wide selection, plus tea, coffee and fruit juice. Just help yourself. The room was clean and warm, the bed comfortable, and tea and coffee were supplied in the room daily. The lounge is OK, with entertainment and bingo each night. It’s a short five-minute walk to the promenade, and the bus stands are nearby. The staff are very friendly, and I can’t fault the hotel personally. I’d return, but if you want all the bells and whistles, expect to pay for it.

The drinks vouchers were very good, and the staff were brilliant. Food was nice too. The hotel is a little dated, but I think that’s reflected in the price. A solid 8/10, and I’d stay again.

We heard other people complain, but we didn’t have any issues ourselves. Room 108 was spacious and clean, the shower was hot, and the bed comfortable. Reception staff Chris and Rhianne were great. We’ve already booked for next year. We’ve just come back from a great five-day holiday. We’re all aware of the delays checking in and waiting to come back, with return trips running late this time and five months ago. Both times there were crashes on the M62. Compared with July, the food was much better, and there’s a new kitchen manager. Apart from the check-in and check-out process, everything else was great for us.

The hotel needs updating immediately. Huge cobwebs were hanging on the curtains, and I couldn’t shower because I had to climb into a bath, which was difficult as I’m disabled. The food was absolutely disgusting, and there was no heating on the first night. The lift only holds two people, there were queues constantly, and then it was out of service for a whole day. A nightmare. We use Caledonian holidays three or four times a year, but we’ll never go back to the tower hotel.
