The food was a real highlight across both nights and mornings. We had two breakfasts and two dinners, with lovely local produce: the bacon and sausages were beautiful, and the sausage with mash and a Yorkie and the Blacksmith burger were faultless. The next evening, my mac and cheese and his sirloin steak were both tasty and generous. He even joked he’d leave me to marry whoever cooked his steak! The whole team worked incredibly hard, and it showed. We’d booked a couple of nights to explore the area while considering a move. The old building is gorgeous, with lovely period features. 'The Snug' is the prettiest dining space, though the restaurant and bar are warm and welcoming too. December weather wasn’t great, so coming in from a long walk to a friendly, warm pub felt like a hug. We’re looking forward to visiting again when we move nearby.

The food was a definite 10/10. I had chilli prawns, fish and chips, then sticky toffee pudding, and every bit was delicious. The fish was one of the tastiest, most perfectly cooked meals I’ve had in a long time. We chose the two courses for £20 and I ordered a drink at the bar. My husband and I had lunch at the Anvil pub in Pimperne today. It was warm and cosy inside. Carla was lovely, and Carl brought our food over. He was a very pleasant man. Thanks to chefs Ollie and Shaun. We’ll definitely be back.

The service was slow and disappointing. The young flaxen-haired man serving us seemed inattentive and gave the impression he’d rather be somewhere else, which was a shame. The food itself was brilliant. I had delicious chicken, and the pub is warm, cosy and traditional. It would have been a delightful meal all round with better table service.

This was our second stop here, the first was back in August, while we waited for the car to charge. Both times we’ve just had tea and cake. The place is lovely, the staff are very friendly, and the food going out to other tables looks really nice.

We only stopped for a quick drink while travelling from Dorset home to Wiltshire. The outside seating is lovely, with much of it covered, and inside is beautiful, with a separate dining area. The daytime staff were friendly. I also noticed Sunday roast is served from 12 till 8, which is great. We’re happy to come back and try more, even though it’s 50 minutes from home.
