Hamptons Brighton

I spent three nights here for New Year’s and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get around Kemptown. Beck, the manager, was friendly and happy to help. My room was neat and clean, with cute complimentary coffees and teas and a TV, which was super cool. The showers and toilets were clean too, and I liked being able to come and go whenever I wanted with my own key. It felt like my own place. There’s a beautiful sea view from the window, with lots of great places nearby to see and visit, including the pier. It’s a great place if you want to go out a lot and come back to rest. I was really comfortable. Thanks, Beck, I’ll be back for sure. I just love Brighton!

The bed and linen looked clean and comfortable, and Hamptons Brighton is handy for coffee shops and markets, with a bus stop right outside. The rest of the room wasn’t clean overall. There were toiletries left by previous guests in the bathroom, and the cups and cutlery looked dirty and unwashed. The staff seemed friendly, but the advertised daily housekeeping didn’t happen. It was also difficult to find staff, which made check-in hard to arrange. For somewhere advertised as a hotel, the quality felt more like a hostel.

The sea views and location were the best parts of our stay at The Haptons in Brighton. Waking up to the ocean was genuinely refreshing. At £90 a night, though, we expected more comfort and convenience, and wouldn’t return. The reception is in a separate building, which was a hassle, and the building felt more like a converted council house than a hotel, without the welcoming feel we’d hoped for. The room was basic, which could have been fine, but there was no double glazing. It was chilly, and the blinds didn’t block much light. It also seemed that university students were living downstairs, and their partying through the night made it hard to sleep.

The neighborhood is nice, but my room looks nothing like the photos. It has one single bed, too short for me, and now that it’s dark I can see none of the lights work, so I’m in complete darkness. The office is closed, and I’ve emailed without getting a response. My room is above the entrance, and it’s cold because the outer door is always open. There’s no extra blanket, and everyone slams that door so hard that my room shakes. There’s very little toilet paper too, so bring your own. I checked in a few hours ago and don’t plan to stay the other two nights I booked unless management does something. This feels more like a hostel, and even hostels have working lights.
