The people working here were wonderful, and the hotel, restaurant, and room were spotless. Dinner was a real highlight: the Valentine’s menu was lovely, the food was delicious, and the salmon with oyster sauce and tiramisu were heavenly. A kind woman served me a double espresso at 7am, too. I really hope management appreciates how great the staff are. The views and surrounding countryside were beautiful as well. Our room, though, made it a pretty rough night. It was cold when we arrived, and the heating went off again around midnight. The bed and pillows were so uncomfortable that neither of us could sleep, and by 5am I’d had enough and got dressed. Earlier, I couldn’t shower because the water pressure was too low. It came back after dinner, so I finally managed, but the room never really warmed up. We’d spent our first night away alone in a few years, and I’m sorry it turned out this way. We’d happily return if we could get a decent night’s sleep and not need paracetamol afterwards.

I’d booked a Christmas walking holiday, but a fractured foot meant I couldn’t join the walks. The staff helped make the stay good anyway, and I still had a lovely Christmas. Thanks to them for that. Before arriving, I explained that I’d broken my foot and asked for a room near the bar and dining room. They warned me there were lots of stairs in the communal areas and no lifts, but said they’d try to help. When I got there, they’d received the message and given me a large room in the main house. Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the shower had plenty of hot water, though it took a while to warm up. You’ll find the location a bit inaccessible without a car. There are good walks nearby and great views, as others in my group who went walking told me.

My company moved me here from another hotel, and I’m glad they listened. There’s a gym, pool, and sauna, so I’ve got something to do after work instead of just killing time at the bar. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the rooms are extremely clean, and both the bed and shower are good. The food’s really good too. No complaints at all, highly recommend it.

The old part of the hotel is a lovely characterful building, and the views from the bar and much of the hotel are amazing on a clear day. Breakfast was great, the Christmas decorations were lovely, and the staff were helpful. The pool was nice and quiet when we visited. The sauna and steam room have a slightly odd layout beside the gym instead of the pool. Our room was basic but clean, with no problems, though the walls are quite thin, so take earplugs. We looked out onto an embankment with bits of rubbish, which was a downside, and it would’ve been nice to have a fridge. We only had breakfast at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the restaurant otherwise. There are loads of nice pubs nearby.
