Thatched Cottage

We barely slept on Friday night, and on Saturday we had to go out and get earplugs. Maybe it was just our room, Darjeerling on the ground floor, but we heard chairs scraping and pans dropping in the kitchen next door, music from the pub next door, and plenty of road noise. At 2am there were also two guys apparently beating the bells out of each other. Then there were the amorous neighbours upstairs, though I won't go into details. It's a beautiful old hotel, and I know a 400-year-old building will have soundproofing limitations, but the noise was just too much for us. The room and hotel were beautiful, and the service and food were superb, with a central location close to everything. The noise is why I took a star off.

They even gave our dog sausages for breakfast and wouldn't accept any money for them. The welcome was so warm, the rooms are beautiful, breakfast was amazing, and the staff are just wonderful. It's a real gem, and I couldn't recommend it more. Right in the heart of Brickenhurst, with free parking and easy access to the train station and forest.

The room had lovely homemade biscuits and fresh milk, and the breakfast and soup were delicious. Everything was spot on during our night here with a friend. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the service was lovely, and everyone was friendly and helpful. We'll definitely return!

Our room fee included a breakfast menu that was about as perfect as it gets, which felt incredible. The room itself was cosy and quirky, just as you'd expect in a centuries-old thatched cottage, and all the more charming for it. Tall people should mind their heads, though. Little touches like fresh milk in the fridge and a Nespresso machine instead of instant coffee really add to that looked-after feeling. We're already planning a return visit.
