Glendevon House Hotel

We were in the area visiting friends and would stay here again. The rooms were really nice, and my daughters loved having their own room with twin double beds.

The woman working there was great, but the night staff were miserable and talked loudly in reception at night. There was a weed smell in reception, partly masked by air freshener, and the shower pressure was weak. The room door opens right into reception, which felt odd. The room was clean and the beds comfortable, though it seemed a bit overpriced.

We were warmly welcomed to a well-equipped room with a huge bathroom. It had a fridge, microwave, jet tub and separate shower. There are only six free parking spaces, and the area is nice. It’s a short walk to the Co-op and restaurants.

The staff, especially the manager, spoke to us in a really aggressive and rude way about their policy against letting anyone into the property unless they were paying guests. That policy wasn’t listed in the room, at reception, or on any website. Most hotels don’t say visitors can’t come by during the day. We’d paid a nightly rate, and those of us staying were there overnight, so I don’t understand why a few people couldn’t visit for 30 minutes. They could have told us about the policy beforehand, but the way they reacted afterwards was disgusting and left my parents very upset and stressed. The rooms and facilities felt far below what we expected: dated decor, poor upkeep and tiny rooms. Our first room was so cramped that its bathroom was almost claustrophobic, and the room didn’t have the clean, relaxing feel you’d hope for. We thought the wardrobe was a bathroom, it was that small. There was nowhere to put bags, and with them open on the floor, we couldn’t move around unless we closed them and put them away. The TV was more like a desktop monitor. I did want to give just one star, but some staff were considerate and moved us to a slightly bigger room. Thanks to the staff members who helped. Even so, between the outdated rooms and facilities and the shockingly poor treatment from staff, this feels more like a two-star hotel. We’d have been better off at the Premier Inn. At least you know what you’re getting there, including some respect.
