The room was warm, the bed comfortable and the shower good, but there was dust and a lot of cobwebs. Some practical things were awkward too: the plugs along one wall didn’t work, the tea and coffee were tucked behind the TV and hard to reach, and the kettle sat very close to the TV and its cables. The bathroom shelf sloped. Breakfast was okay. It didn’t feel homely, with so many belongings, furniture and cases piled in corners and on the stairs.

The pint was well worth recommending, and there are restaurants nearby. Sadly, the bistro wasn’t available during our stay. We came to the village for a wedding and spent two enjoyable nights here. I’d definitely book again if we return. The building is listed, so there’s no lift, and while there aren’t too many stairs, it wouldn’t really suit a wheelchair user. The room was well furnished, though its age showed in a funny way: getting out of bed, I found myself going downhill towards the ensuite. Thankfully, I don’t drink much these days! There’s also a step up into the shower, but that was much easier than stepping over a bath. The village in Herefordshire is very quaint. At first I wasn’t sure about the hotel being right on the high street, but it has a large car park at the rear, and the staff were extremely helpful. My two-night wedding stay included breakfast. I hadn’t had breakfast yet when I wrote this, but expected the full English to be up to scratch. Even without double glazing, the high street location wasn’t noisy, perhaps because the building is listed.

The breakfast was very good, but this was the worst place I’ve stayed. The room was damp, with water running down the wall, and there was a large gap around the closed window. The plug sockets didn’t work, probably because of the damp, and the TV wouldn’t tune in. There was no restaurant. I took photos, though I can’t post them here.

The breakfast was tasty, and the woman serving us was calm, bubbly and very friendly. Checkout was easy, and there’s a cute little outdoor seating area. The place has such a great vibe. We liked the cozy room and the pub’s old-fashioned character. The windows looked onto the road, which gave us a nice street view, though we could hear some music and road noise. It wasn’t too disturbing for us. The shower pressure was a bit low, the only part we didn’t enjoy. The pub was busy when we arrived, but the staff were friendly and helped us check in and find our room. The other customers were friendly too, which impressed me. I can’t offer much travel advice since we had several stopovers and used different ways to get around. There are a few restaurants, takeaways, off-licences, shops, a Co-op Express and a larger Co-op nearby.

A lovely breakfast sent us on our way, and the people here were happy to accommodate our unusual requests. My son and I stayed for the first night of our three-day bike trip across the country. We were tired and needed a friendly welcome and a comfortable bed, and that’s exactly what we got. A great place to begin the adventure. Five stars all round.
