Buckland Manor Relais Ch Teaux

It felt more like a private country house than a hotel, which made it a really cosy choice for a winter break. Our small deluxe room was lovely, with a surprisingly spacious bathroom. The food was very good, and the staff were both friendly and professional. I’d happily come back sometime.

The team at Buckland Manor made us feel welcome the moment we arrived, and everyone was so friendly. We had a fabulous afternoon tea with the family at this beautiful hotel. Thanks to all of you for such a happy day.

We never actually ate at the restaurant. We’d booked for Dec 7, then realized it wasn’t offering what we’d expected. When we canceled, the restaurant kept referring us to its policy and showed little flexibility instead of trying to sort things out reasonably. In the end, our credit card company reviewed the case and refunded the charge. The way this was handled before we ever set foot inside means I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant. Check all the details carefully before booking, and be ready for very strict policies.

The food itself was excellent, but lunch felt uninspired and fell short of what I expect from a Cotswold five-star restaurant. I ordered salmon, which arrived as a small plate with a few capers and nothing else. My wife’s charcuterie was just folded Parma ham and salami, with no garnish or salad. We added two portions of chips and some bread, and with four drinks the bill came to £116. The approach is beautiful, and inside feels cosy and in keeping with a period property, right up to Reception. That was in a tiny room that reminded me of a two-star reception in Skegness.
