Arundel House

The location is hard to fault. Our room faced the canal, with a nice view of Cambridge, and it was an easy walk into town. Getting there from the A14 was straightforward too. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable, though there was only a small TV and no bedside plugs, so I used a power bank relay to charge my phone. The place is quite run down. I’d guess it hasn’t been renovated this century. Keeping a traditional feel is one thing, but the faded photos in old frames could be replaced without changing that. Breakfast is basic, and the Full English costs extra. I suspect you could find it cheaper in Cambridge. Parking was a bonus since many places don’t seem to offer it. The price felt about right for what we got. I’d stay again, but probably not if it cost much more.

The river Cam view and a short park walk into the city centre make this a handy spot. There’s no lift, and we had to pay for the car park because we hadn’t booked directly. Breakfast was Continental and adequate. Our room had a few minor faults, and we had to ask twice for decaf tea bags.

I was travelling solo, so having a bar and restaurant downstairs was really handy. The food was pretty nice and the staff were lovely. My room was nice too, though the hotel could do with a bit of care in places as it’s looking tired.

My wife and I had a short break here and loved it. The hotel is a little dated, but the location was superb. We knew about the parking requirements and booked directly through the hotel instead of a third party. We’d happily come back.
