We booked our Valentine’s stay around dinner at the award-winning Waterwheel Restaurant, and the meal lived up to its reputation. My sirloin was juicy, tender, and cooked just right. My partner’s herb topped cod was clearly prepared with skill and good ingredients. The Valentine’s menu had lovely flavours, and the staff were attentive and friendly without hovering. The intimate restaurant was a highlight. The setting made the getaway feel special too. Quy Mill Hotel is a historic watermill in scenic grounds, just a few miles outside Cambridge city centre, with lovely paths for a romantic stroll. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and spotlessly clean, a cosy place to come back to after dinner. Breakfast the next morning had plenty of high-quality choices, served by friendly staff. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt romantic and tranquil, with a nice mix of luxury, relaxation, and great food. We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day and will definitely return.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and inviting. We even saw a staff member cleaning the carpets, and the difference afterwards was striking. Later, the same gentleman was checking rooms. When I asked for extra milk, he politely offered to service ours. I’d told reception the previous night we didn’t want service, then changed my mind the next day, so that was on me. He handled it without any problem, and it showed how attentive the team is. Nancy deserves a special mention for being helpful during service and making us feel well looked after. The fish of the day was delicious too. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the room was spotless, with real care in the details. We’d recommend seeing the place for yourself despite the negative reviews. The team seem to be doing all they can to turn things around, and the place has a lot of heart. We really enjoyed the stay and would come back. The only small hiccup was being a bit confused about parking, especially since there didn’t seem to be much demand for it at the time.

The parking mess caused hours of stress during what should have been a special 29-year reunion. I arranged free parking for our group as promised and sent in all the registrations as instructed. Even with written confirmation from the Operations Manager, we got multiple tickets. The hotel kept refusing to take responsibility or fix its admin mistakes. Cleanliness was below standard, and management was dismissive, with no accountability. I regret trusting this hotel for a milestone reunion. The whole stay was a huge disappointment, and I’d strongly advise people to avoid it, especially for a special occasion or group booking. The only good part was Taren, the young waiter, and the bar staff. They were friendly and attentive, and deserve recognition.

My best friend and I came away feeling completely pampered and refreshed after two nights. The spa treatments were the highlight: a hot stone massage, a facial that left us glowing, and a full body massage that felt like a total reset. We also ordered room service and could relax without leaving our room. It was a wonderful chance to catch up, unwind, and enjoy the facilities. Just the recharge we needed.

The Friday night Bordeaux wine tasting on the 20th was a great value, with three hours to sample good wine and food. Before we arrived for our stay from Friday the 20th to the 22nd, the operational manager had contacted me to explain the event. My partner is vegetarian, and they made food especially for her. The staff were super friendly and answered all our questions about the stay. We liked the facilities, the value, and the service enough that we’ll definitely come back. We’re local, so we’re also going to ask about membership for the spa, pool, and gym.
