Celtic International Hotel Cardiff Airport

My stay got off to a good start when a friendly staff member showed me where to park. The reception staff were helpful and welcoming too, and my room was spotless and very well maintained. I'd definitely recommend the hotel, especially if you're flying from Cardiff airport.

We used the Celtic International twice, for a night before our flight from Cardiff and another after a late return. Both rooms were clean, but the twin was much more dated than the double. Its tired carpet and 1970s-style decor made it feel as if little had been invested in upkeep. The single mattresses were poor, with springs you could feel, and we struggled to sleep. The double looked much better for the price and was comfortable enough for a proper night's rest, though its springs were still noticeable. The service had been fine before our return night. I had told the hotel in advance that our flight meant we'd arrive late and gave an estimated time. Still, no one was at reception. We rang the bell six times over several minutes without an answer, so I went through the hotel and found someone in the kitchen. He was dismissive, said he couldn't hear the bell from there, and remarked we were “lucky” he hadn't locked the door, or we'd have been left outside. That was especially disappointing after we'd told them we were coming late.

The rooms were clean and did the job, though some parts could use updating. They still had what we needed for a comfortable night's sleep. The staff were especially welcoming and happy to help, which made the stay relaxed. The food was excellent too, with lots of choice and everything cooked well. It's a friendly place to use as a base, and I'd happily come back.

This was my second stay while visiting Barri island. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the room was huge, clean and comfortable. The bar was a lovely place to relax, and the food was nice too.
