The steak and ale pie was amazing, and the team were lovely. We had a really comfortable room, too. There’s plenty of parking and dining space, plus a nice bar and beer garden. Room prices are reasonable, and it’s handy for Carlisle. A proper little gem. Why wouldn’t you?

We were driving home from Scotland in our campervan and called to ask if we could stay in the car park. We said we’d eat at the pub, and the lovely woman who answered just asked when to expect us. I’d been a bit apprehensive about the food after reading some very critical reviews here, but the service, staff and meal were all top notch. We left very satisfied. I hope people aren’t put off by poor reviews from folks who were probably just having a bad day. Thanks very much for the hospitality.

The room might benefit from a little end-of-season freshening up, but that’s a minor point. I slept splendidly, and the soundproofing was especially good. Even though the place is popular for meals and drinks, I wasn’t disturbed at all. Staff were friendly and the welcome was warm, the bed was excellent, and breakfast was freshly cooked with tasty extras, especially the jam and croissants. It’s a great spot for an overnight stay. I wish every hotel ran this way, and I’d happily stay again tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for making it such a good visit.

The restaurant meal was awful, and we live locally, so we won’t be recommending it. My husband’s goat’s cheese panna cotta looked like Babybel, while my starter was pureed celeriac with hazelnut. The steak and ale pie was ruined by extremely salty gravy, and the mashed potato was awful. His burger was just as bad, dry and overcooked, with small burgers inside a roll. The log burner went out and it got colder as we sat there. The wine was awful too. It was on the main drinks menu and was 8% alcohol, but that wasn’t mentioned anywhere.
