The George

The food was consistently good, and service stayed steady. It’s a calm, family-friendly place, with comfortable seating and lighting that makes the room feel relaxed.

The town-square location was convenient, but we could hear all the noise from it early in the morning. The car park behind the hotel is small, and a space isn’t guaranteed. We booked three nights at the George Hotel in July, and after thinking it over, I decided to leave a review. The room had a strong musty, wet-dog smell when we walked in. We wondered if it was just a dirty hoover, but there were also cobwebs on the ceiling, curly hairs in the bathroom, mould around the sink plug, very thin carpet, and plenty more that needed attention. It really needed a thorough clean and redecorating. A wedding party in the room above kept us awake past 1 a.m., banging around and playing loud music. I went downstairs to look for staff, but nobody was on night duty. I called the out-of-hours number, and someone eventually came to ask the guests to quiet down, though it wasn’t dealt with straight away. We wouldn’t stay again. The room photos don’t show what it’s really like, and it wasn’t worth the price. Book somewhere else.

Karen, Anne and Will were so hospitable, thank you to them. We had a fantastic stay at The George, with a fabulous breakfast and an exquisite pub menu. We’ll see you again when we’re back on the Island. Best regards ✨️

The broken bedroom blind had to be jammed into place to stay up. The hotel feels very tired and needs a deep clean. On our first day the Full English breakfast wasn’t good, there were no sauces and the mushrooms were really old. The next day there was no breakfast because they didn’t have a chef.
