The food kept me happy throughout my stay. I ate at the hotel each night, and there was plenty of choice on the menu. Everything was delicious and excellent quality. The whole place had a warm, relaxed feel, and every member of staff I met brought that lovely Northern hospitality. I spent three midweek nights there in February, paying £304 for single occupancy with the 30% discount. That was brilliant value. Cameron welcomed me warmly even though I arrived early, and showed me to a lovely room. The Superior King Rooms are stylish, with comfortable beds and impressive bathrooms. With a Michelin Key, I had high expectations, and they were well deserved. A couple of things didn't meet them at first, but the staff sorted those issues out without compromise. Mick, the General Manager, is very visible at the front of house, and his professionalism and efficiency really made an impression. I’ll definitely be back, and I’m already looking forward to it.

Dessert was a real highlight: vanilla rice pudding and rum soaked pineapple with coconut ice cream, both amazing. We also had the 10oz Himalayan Rib Eye and Braised Ox Cheek for mains, with Local Crab on Sourdough and Blue Cheese Soufflé to start. Everything was delicious, cooked perfectly, and arrived piping hot. The menu had so many lovely options that it took us a while to settle on just two starters and mains. We came to try the Bar & Kitchen on a very wet, windy Wednesday night in January. The staff were friendly and relaxed, and the warm welcome and efficient service made it a lovely visit. We’ll definitely come back next time we’re up here.

The afternoon tea itself was superb, and the elegant atmosphere and faultless service made the visit. The staff were quick, polite, and very helpful, going above and beyond to make sure we could have tea after computer errors caused a mix-up with our reservation. We went on a Sunday afternoon. We haven’t stayed overnight yet, so I can’t comment on the rooms, but the location is unrivalled in my eyes. We’re definitely planning a night there with dinner. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures.

The shower was lukewarm at best, and others in our party had the same issue in their rooms. There was a small sign blaming a legal temperature limit, though I’ve never heard of that in another hotel. That was disappointing on the chilly Northumbrian coast, especially when the rooms aren’t cheap. Fix that and it would be a five star trip, because it’s a beautiful place in a stunning location. We were there for a friend’s birthday. The bar and restaurant were fantastic, with an excellent cocktail happy hour and delicious food at both dinner and breakfast. The pork cheek and venison were absolutely delicious, and the service was excellent, particularly with our large group. Our room was well maintained and nicely decorated.

The scones were a particular triumph, and all the food was delicious. The bar and restaurant were beautifully decorated and furnished, too. We booked afternoon tea for a family birthday, and it was such a treat. The service was excellent, with special thanks to Robert. We’re looking forward to visiting again.
