The staff were really friendly, and the location worked well for getting around. There's a Co-op a few minutes away for picking up food or a drink. The food was mixed: a standard Premier Inn breakfast, and a nice burger, but the chips tasted like the oil might have gone off, so I left them. My room had the usual amenities, but no fridge or safe. I was very cold because the thin duvet wasn't enough, and I found out the air conditioning is controlled centrally and switched off overnight. Cleanliness was poor too. I had to wash the mugs and wipe the surfaces myself, and the remote was disgusting. The hair dryer didn't work, nor did the replacement; then I realised the plug was faulty. Parking was nearby, but walking over in the rain with all my things after hours of travel was a pain.

The room was quiet, though much too warm, and the usual Premier Inn services were there. Breakfast from the buffet was nice, but having only one coffee machine caused a bottleneck. I stayed one night for work. With the train station close by and a large car park nearby, it made a handy base before an early start. A perfectly fine budget choice for work or families.

Richard, the manager, kindly took care of my partner's and my suitcase after checkout so we could go for a meal without carrying our luggage. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and we'll definitely return. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, and it's an easy walk into town. The food is good too. The Social has a relaxed feel and plenty of food and drinks to choose from, so it's convenient to have everything in one place without needing to head out.

The residents' bar has a fun, quirky feel. This was a nice find, and I really enjoyed my stay here. One of my rules for travelling is that you can never go wrong with a Premier Inn.

Right in central Chelmsford and just around the corner from the train station, this is a good Premier Inn. The building feels modern, and the business class rooms are roomy and very comfortable, with an iron and ironing board. The bath and shower were great.
