The Chester Grosvenor is right in the centre, so shops, historic streets and attractions are an easy walk away. The building’s history comes through in the classic decor, while the rooms feel refined and comfortable. Ours was spacious, spotless and thoughtfully set up, with an incredibly comfortable bed and a calm, indulgent feel. We had a special dining experience here. The restaurants and afternoon tea were outstanding, with beautifully presented dishes and high-quality ingredients. The food and service both felt carefully done. Staff were professional, friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and made sure we were looked after. Their care added to the whole stay. It’s a beautiful historic place with a real sense of luxury and comfort, and made our visit to Chester feel special.

Even on a busy Saturday afternoon, the staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The atmosphere was relaxing, with light music playing. We had champagne cocktails, which were amazing, and there was a really good drinks selection. Food arrived beautifully presented and was excellent, with a wide choice of options. The location in the heart of chester makes it easy to reach by transport. I’d highly recommend this place.

We only spent one night here and wished we could have stayed longer. Someone in our party fell outside and then had a couple more falls inside the hotel. The staff were extremely helpful throughout and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fabulous, and the evening dining room experience was astonishing. There aren’t enough stars for this hotel. It’s worth every penny for a special occasion, though it isn’t cheap. You get what you pay for.

We were just in Chester for the day on 17/01/26 and stopped by the Brasserie at 12.30pm for lunch. It was busy, but we got a table and didn’t wait too long for menus. A charming gentleman, who I assume was the Restaurant Manager, took our drinks order. Chardonnay was only available by the bottle, and as I wanted just a glass, he suggested another white wine. It was lovely, and he clearly knows his wine. We ordered beef and chicken, both delicious. I’d meant to skip dessert after eating too much over Xmas, but when he brought the menus back he pointed to the chocolate option and said, “If you like chocolate... it is good.” He was right. The chocolate sauce was delicious, and I wanted to lick what was left off the plate. The staff work hard, and lunch was lovely. We’ve stayed at this beautiful hotel many times and will stay again. The staff are lovely, too. The doorman was very welcoming. Happy New Year to everyone. If I could give 100 stars, I would, definitely 10/10.

The food was nice, and there’s a wide range of teas, but this was nothing like our first afternoon tea here. The staff weren’t attentive and we felt awkward asking for more food. Nobody offered us more tea or a chance to try other teas. Then the scones arrived before we’d asked for them, which made us feel rushed even though our table was booked for another hour. We noticed the same thing happening to everyone. For the price, we could have gone somewhere cheaper and had better service. We didn’t get the great experience we had the first time.
