About this property

This family-run hotel, a former 15th-century coaching inn, exudes traditional charm with its antique pine and dark oak furnishings, wallpaper, and carpets. Some rooms offer more contemporary decor. Located in the heart of a bustling Cotswold market town, the hotel is a minute's walk from restaurants, a charming theatre, and a boutique cinema. Please note there is no elevator/lift and the swimming pool is currently unavailable. Ground floor rooms can be requested upon booking. This historic inn boasts a rich past, once owned by legendary drummer Keith Moon of 'The Who, ' who frequently entertained celebrity friends like Roger Daltrey. Comedy icon Ronnie Barker was also a regular, with his shop just three doors down; some of the hotel's furnishings were even purchased from his store.

We stayed for three nights in October 2025. The room was clean and tidy throughout, with an ensuite that was a little dated, plus a TV and tea and coffee facilities. Staff were really friendly and helpful. When my wife asked for another blanket, an extra duvet arrived very quickly. We only ate food from the bar, which was okay and piping hot, and didn't try the restaurant. Drinks were reasonably priced, and the bar staff were helpful. There were plenty of tables and toilets available. Parking is behind the hotel off Albion Street, though spaces are limited. The pool wasn't open during our visit. We could hear road noise from our room at the front, but it didn't bother us. Dogs are welcome, and the Wi-Fi is free.

Linda's kindness is what my wife and I will remember most. She made us feel like family, even though we're so far from home, and we'd come back to Chippy Norton just to stay with her and the friendly staff again. She also upgraded our room to the best one at no charge, with a lovely view, and it was spotless and fresh. Dinner was amazing, and the breakfast selection was the best we've had in our two weeks in England. The cottage pie reminded us of what our grandma made back home in Australia, and the sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble with hot custard were mouth-watering. Hats off to the chef. Many thanks to Linda and everyone there!

We were really disappointed with the stay. There were cobwebs on the ceiling, and the bathroom walls and ceiling had dirty black mould. That was completely unacceptable. The window safety straps had also been cut, which felt unsafe, especially for anyone travelling with children. Whenever we needed help, there was basically no one at the front desk. The place came across as neglected and badly managed, and I wouldn't stay again unless the problems were fixed. We contacted booking.com, which we used to book, but the venue hasn't responded. I don't understand how booking.com can advertise this business.

Tushar and Sam were great throughout my stay. They answered questions and stepped in quickly when I needed help, including arranging a room change and getting essentials sorted. Their local suggestions and travel advice also made it much easier to get around. I'd happily recommend staying here.
