Stratton House Hotel

Comfort is what I keep coming back to here. It’s an attractive country house hotel in pleasant gardens, with modern facilities and comfortable furnishings that suit the building. The food was top notch, from an interesting menu, and prices seemed reasonable for what you get. The staff were pleasant and nothing seemed too much trouble. At breakfast, our server even arranged the tea and coffee pot handles so they pointed towards the right people, a lovely touch. There’s no room service or lift. It also looks like a great place for weddings.

The food we had in the evening was excellent, but we left unhappy, especially as it was our wedding anniversary over Valentine’s weekend. The shower in our room was freezing cold. Staff knew the water was cold, but told me cold showers are good for you. There was mould around the window, and we couldn’t book into the spa because it was busy, although we were told we could use it for an hour when booked in for treatments. Staff dismissed our questions and concerns instead of helping. We also weren’t allowed to sit in the bar because two tables were reserved, even though we were hotel guests and arrived early. We were told to sit there until those guests came, then had to leave. I personally think hotel guests should come before outside customers.

The deluxe room was fantastic and very comfortable. We also ate in the bar and the meal was excellent. All the staff were really nice and friendly, especially the bar staff.

The check-in took longer than expected because no staff member was immediately available at the front desk. Once we were settled, though, the rest of our visit went smoothly and was highly enjoyable. We loved staying in this gracious Georgian mansion, now a beautifully maintained boutique hotel full of style, character and a welcoming atmosphere. Our room was clean, comfortable and nicely presented. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent, with high-quality food and attentive service. We’d gladly recommend it.
