The food was awful, and the response when I complained made the meal even worse. I eat out several times a week and rarely leave reviews, but this was probably the worst meal I’ve had in a hotel or restaurant. I’ve had better from a hot food counter. The quality was poor: the salad looked like it had been left out for a week, the coleslaw reminded me of Tesco value, and the vegetables were solid. The meat portions were tiny and overcooked. A piece of bacon on my partner’s plate was so hard it couldn’t be eaten. Natasha, who seemed to be in charge, had a horrible attitude when I raised the problems. She said she’d worked there for 15 years, but I don’t think she’s suited to hospitality or dealing with customers. The three other serving staff I spoke with were nice and helpful, though a bit timid, which wouldn’t surprise me if Natasha manages them. There are much better places to eat in Cookstown. Don’t waste your time here.

The care from Tanya and the staff made the whole wedding feel easy. From the prep weeks before, through Friday lunchtime as we left, everything was handled so well. Tanya helped Keilie keep track of what she needed to do and bring, which was a lot with three little ones. During the reception, the team were attentive from decorating through dinner. They seemed to notice what was needed before we even had to ask. The carvery was delicious, hot and served so pleasantly. DJ Woody did a great job in the evening, reading the crowd and playing for everyone. I've known him a long time, and he's a lovely fella. The buffet was delicious too, and there was loads of it. They even packed up trays for guests to take home, a lovely extra touch. The bedrooms were clean, with fresh, inviting bedding that was much needed, and breakfast was hot and tasty, with nothing too much trouble. Everything was cleared up and packed for us to take home. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and Manager Tanya is an amazing professional. This was my daughter and son-in-law’s wedding at The Royal Hotel on Thursday 19/2/26.

We had so much food that everyone took boxes home, and the service was lovely from start to finish. I booked for 14 guests to celebrate a birthday, and the email replies to all my questions came straight away. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the table looked beautiful with balloons. The festive afternoon tea was great value, with high quality food. We had vegetable soup with wheaten bread, fresh soft sandwiches, buns, scones with cream, jam and butter on the side, apple pie, mince pies, shortbread, traybakes, brownies and millionaires shortbread. The kids' version was generous and fresh as well: sausages, chips, sandwiches, a scone, snowball, strawberry and marshmallow skewer, shortbread, sweets and a jug of juice. Tea, coffee, milky coffee and juice were refilled whenever we wanted. Highly recommend!

We had a really good evening with a big group of friends. The food was beautifully presented and very well prepared, and my husband's steak was spot on, tender, well seasoned and properly medium rare. The galantines promotion was a great deal. The menu was a bit on the pricey side, but the three course offer had such good choices that none of us felt we were missing out by choosing it. Cocktails were nicely balanced, beers on tap poured well, and the staff were welcoming and attentive. The only snag came at the end. We waited 30 minutes for someone to bring the bill or even ask about it, then had to look for staff ourselves. The lovely woman at reception wasn't sure how to split it or whether that was possible. There were 12 of us and a hefty bill, so eventually one friend paid in full and we paid her back. I felt bad for the receptionist, who was left alone to deal with it.

Tanya and the team did a wonderful job with our 60th anniversary dinner for over 160 people. The food was hot, delicious and served efficiently, with a great variety on the carvery menu. Everyone thought the whole event was top notch. The room was set up immaculately, right down to the napkin and balloon colours, and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks especially to Kelly and Ciara, who were so friendly every time I phoned, the guys who helped us set up, and Tanya, who's at the very top of her profession. Can't thank them enough. Highly recommended.
