The Angel Of Corbridge Limited

We finally got around to staying at The Angel for a two-night New Year break, after meaning to for years. It’s a lovely historic pub right in the heart of beautiful Corbridge. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, and the bar felt warm and welcoming, with a great range of cask ales. The food was excellent, cooked properly from fresh ingredients rather than frozen. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We’ll certainly be back.

A great local gem. I stopped in for a quick pint while passing through and was glad I did. It was quiet on a weekday late afternoon, so there were plenty of seats. The staff were welcoming, the drinks selection was great, and the place was spotlessly clean with ample parking. I didn’t try the food this time, but I’ve heard good things and plan to come back soon to give it a try.

Boxing Day lunch here with my mother-in-law was very disappointing. The service was poor, our table was dirty and hadn’t been set, and loud music was blasting in the small dining room. We had to share one menu, and its printing was wonky and smeared. Drinks took so long that we gave up waiting. It was way below standard, and we won’t return to The Angel. We went to the Black Bull instead and would highly recommend it for its great atmosphere, food, and service. There are plenty of good places around Hexham and Corbridge, so there’s no need to go back.

The breakfast was good and the hotel is in a great location. That’s about all I can say in its favour. The building felt dirty throughout, and the carpets were absolutely disgusting. In our room, both sash windows were filthy, didn’t work, and needed replacing. The bathroom floor had several broken tiles, and the light’s pull cord had been broken and tied together so many times that the end hung about two feet from the ceiling. Really, how much would a new cord cost? I can’t understand how this is a four-star hotel. We were a party of nine in six rooms, booked from Thursday to Monday, four nights in total, back in September 2024. On Saturday morning our lead guy got a call saying the hotel had double-booked and we had to leave. They claimed we’d only booked two nights and told us to abandon our plans and go back to sort it out. Luckily, we had their email confirming the four-day booking. Even after seeing the email, the manager said we’d still have to leave because the arriving guests had booked through Booking.com. He told us to wait in reception while he saw what he could do. Forty minutes later, our lead guy was told nearby hotels were full and we had to go to a Travel Lodge six miles away. Meanwhile, another person in our party quickly searched on his phone and found rooms available at local hotels, though they were obviously more expensive than a Travel Lodge. By then we were fed up. Our trip had been booked almost a year ahead, and we didn’t see why we should be the ones moved. We told the manager the four-day reservation was confirmed and this was their mistake, not ours, and that we’d stay until Monday. The whole thing cast a bad feeling over the rest of the trip, and we definitely wouldn’t return under any circumstances. Check reviews on other sites from the guests they had to turn away. Communication was dire too. Our lead had to call repeatedly before getting confirmation of the booking.
