About this property

Once an ancient monastery, The Star and Eagle Hotel dates back to the 14th Century. It offers charming accommodations in the Kent countryside, a 20-minute drive from Royal Tunbridge Wells. Much of the old stonework is still visible throughout the building, and guests can admire the exposed brickwork, wooden beams, and an open log fire while dining in the restaurant. A wide-ranging menu is available, including tapas, seafood and meat, and there are vegetarian options to choose from. Guests can also dine outdoors, with picturesque views of the surrounding Kentish Weald. Rooms at The Star and Eagle have carpeted floors, sitting areas and TVs. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, and free private parking is available on site. Situated just 3 miles from the A21 highway, the hotel is a 35-minute drive from the historic coastal town of Hastings. Maidstone is just a 25-minute ride by car.

It's a lovely old building in a pretty village, with loads of history, and I really want to like it. But both times we've visited, the bar staff ignored us and it took ages to get a drink. They need to decide whether they want to be a proper pub or just a restaurant.

Every time, the staff go above and beyond. You don't often find service this attentive, and every moment felt thoughtful. Warm welcome, lovely atmosphere and top-quality food!

We'd booked an inside table for the three of us, but when we arrived the patio looked so attractive that we asked to sit outside. They found us a lovely shaded table, really comfortable, with cushions on outdoor seating well above average. The waitress was cheerful, friendly and attentive without overdoing it, just as she has been on our previous visits. Our baguettes and side salads were lovely again, as we'd enjoyed them before. We also asked about viewing a bedroom for a possible future booking, and they showed us around without hesitation. The old character building adds a lot to the experience. Another memorable visit, and we're looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend.

The staff were so friendly and made sure nothing was too much trouble. There were five of us, and we all had excellent Sunday roasts, including lamb, beef, pork and the vegetarian option. Plenty of perfectly cooked meat, a great range of vegetables and especially good roast potatoes. Desserts were wonderful too. We had lunch at the Star and Eagle yesterday and will definitely be going back. Well done, everyone.
