The shops and restaurants around the hotel were handy, including the large Asda and shopping centres. My upstairs room was easy to find, clean and nicely presented when I arrived. It was a standard Premier Inn room, and everything else was good, though the WiFi was pretty poor. The receptionist was friendly when we arrived. I stayed for two nights just after Christmas, on 27th and 28th December, and enjoyed it. The breakfast restaurant was closed, so they put out free drinks, pastries and fruit in reception. I thought that was a decent alternative, even though I didn't have any myself. Someone else in my family did.

Lucy at reception gave me a lovely welcome after a really long day. Getting into the hotel was fine despite the major reconstruction work. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. The corridors and stairwells could do with a tidy up and a facelift, but it was a decent place to stay.

My room was clean, but the bathroom was tiny, and I think larger people would struggle to get around the door. There were no decaffeinated drinks, and only two of each item despite the room description and price being for a "triple". I also wasn't told when booking that the restaurant was closed because of the work, so I had to ask reception about breakfast the next morning before an early start to another long day. The car park made me feel unsafe as a woman travelling alone. It was full of white vans, and when I got back from a long day of driving and work at 11pm, I had to cross the dark car park from the far end and pass a group of men smoking at the bottom of the entry ramp. A few spaces reserved for solo female guests in the lit area near the entrance would help. I don't recommend this hotel, and I'll remove it from my employer's list when I get back to the office.

The rooms were generally nice, the staff were pleasant and the half board food was good, but I wouldn't stay here again because of the heat. It was 14° outside and 25.5° in the room, with no way to cool it down. The window only opened a little, and the staff couldn't help. The fan was really dusty and the circulation unit was broken. I contacted the hotel afterwards and got no reply. In the morning it was still 24.5° inside, even with the window open and the temperature outside below 10°.

Nikki at reception really made me feel at home as soon as I arrived. She was friendly, welcoming and professional, and went out of her way to make the stay feel perfect. I had a fantastic stay at Premier Inn Cumberland, with outstanding service from the moment I got there.
