Dinner and breakfast were both good, and the food came out quickly. I had chicken and leek pie, sticky toffee pudding, and a passionfruit cocktail for dinner, then pancakes with bacon in the morning. Breakfast was included. There weren’t many staff covering the restaurant, bar, and lobby, but they still did a good job, though our server wasn’t sure about some menu items. The area was quiet with a nice view, and street parking was easy, with a spacious nearby lot as another option. We were given a late check-in, even though the staff member was working the bar. The bathroom was nice and the TV was easy to use for Netflix. In the Outlander room, dirty windows spoiled the view of the square. The room felt a bit cramped, and the door hit the bed before it could open fully. The towel rack in the bathroom seemed to make the room too warm, but we worked out how to switch it off. The windows were also heavy to keep open for fresh air.

The building is what stands out most here, and the food was good too. The village is pleasant and small enough to see its centre quickly, though we didn’t explore the surrounding area. Outlander fans will recognize the spot, but you don’t need to know the show to enjoy it.

We had a good start, with friendly seating and tasty food. Then we waited 40 minutes for coffee and cake, while locals who ordered after us were served. When I asked about it, the woman in charge got angry and snooty, and told us to leave for “causing a scene.” At the bus stop afterwards, locals said they weren’t surprised and that it had been like this since the show. I’ve heard there are many similar experiences that get lost among reviews that look like fake five-star ratings.

We left hungry, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The portions were small for the price, and we were given no explanation or apology for the delay. We were on a bus tour, so after waiting about 35 minutes for food, we had only five minutes to eat and had to rush through the meal. Service was awful from the start: we were seated without a menu, waited 10 minutes, then someone came to take our order but had to go and get a menu first.

Lunch at the Covenanter Hotel in Falkland was a lovely experience today. The food was delicious, and the service was quick and attentive. A cosy place to enjoy local flavours, highly recommended.
