The upstairs restaurant feels thoughtfully done, and the refurbishment has kept the character of the old building. We found the menu a little limited, though vegetarians have more choice now than when it first reopened. Our food and service were faultless. Two courses, a shared dessert and a bottle of wine came to about £105 including my voluntary tip, which felt fair. We’ll definitely return. 👍

We stayed on 23/24 Feb 2026 and only wished we could have stayed longer. The room was clean, really comfortable and good value, and dinner in the restaurant was great, both the food and the service. It’s an old building that’s clearly been very well cared for. Everyone on staff was friendly and professional. We’d happily book again next time we’re in Dartmouth. Thank you.

Room 3 looked out over the harbour and had a bath I could happily linger in. The whole place feels cosy, comfortable and properly classy after its recent changes. We spent three nights at the Royal Castle Hotel for our anniversary and my birthday, and Lena and the team gave us such a warm welcome and made the stay special. Breakfast was excellent each morning, with plenty of choice and good quality, and Rebecca served it with such cheer and efficiency. We had dinner in the restaurant both nights. The food was delicious, especially the Mushroom, spinach and truffle suet pudding, one of the best vegetarian dishes I’ve had. Compliments to the chef, and thanks to Leah for looking after us on our anniversary, and to Joy as well. Lena and the whole team did so much to make the weekend memorable. We’ll tell our friends and come back! 🙏

The brill catch of the day was very good, and the live music and interesting pub decor were a real plus. The rest of the visit felt a bit lacklustre. I’d booked, but nobody greeted me when I came in. When I was eventually taken to the table, it hadn’t been wiped, and I had to ask. There was no table service, which I’d expect at £40 for a main and wine. Ordering at the bar wasn’t pleasant either, as it hadn’t been wiped and was swimming in beer. They were out of the Picpoul I ordered, so I chose my second option, no big deal, but the chocolate mousse was unavailable too. I appreciated the music, surroundings and main course, but I wouldn’t rush back. I suspect Dartmouth has plenty of eateries doing it better.

Room 9 had fantastic harbour views, and the location was great. Breakfast was lovely, with everything I needed and very good service from the lovely staff. The recent renovations have made the place feel more luxurious. I’ll definitely be back.
