Blue Jay, Derby by Marston's Inns

The price was really cheap, so I'd stay again, but I'd skip breakfast and go to the McDonald's next door. My full English was tasteless. I only enjoyed the mushrooms and tomato, and the rest had no flavour. The room wasn't very clean either, there was hair in the bath, so it didn't seem to have been cleaned properly. At check-in I had to ask several things, including my room number, breakfast time and location, and where to park. That information should have been offered without me having to ask. The girl was kind and friendly, but seemed short on training or initiative. Some other staff seemed okay, though the breakfast service didn't impress me.

We were in town because my kids were competing at Derby arena, and the hotel's location worked really well. It was quiet and clean, with everything we needed for our 2 night stay. We had to leave before 0800, though, and weekend breakfast didn't start until 0800. Luckily McDonalds was right nearby, so we could still get something to eat. I'd definitely stay here again.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and everything was clean and tidy. Heating and amenities all worked. It was easy to get into the town centre, and there was convenient access to the pub, where the carvery was great. The rooms were really nice and clean.

The place itself was lovely, with clean rooms, pristine toilets that smelled nice, and good food. The staff were friendly too. My only reason for taking a little off the score is that it's fairly out of the way if you don't have a vehicle.
