The courtyard view from my window was pretty grim, just grey garden tiles on the second floor. It made me think of what a prison yard might look like. Not a big problem, but the courtyard could be made more attractive. I’ve stayed here for work in Derby for a couple of years, and it’s become my usual place. The reception through to the first floor and the restaurant have had a complete facelift. Staff are friendly and helpful, and I like being able to choose a greener stay with room cleaning only when needed. I’ve really enjoyed the restaurant menu. Parking at Derbion is easy, and reception can provide a discount. I stayed seven nights as one adult in a double room with a king bed. It was £920 for the week, about £130 a night, which felt like good value. Check-in was easy; the lights all worked, and room service, laundry, accessibility, fast Wi-Fi, a fridge, kettle, toiletries, towels, shower, bath, good mattress, extra pillows, electronic lock, TV and gym were available. The room had carpet, and from the courtyard side it was completely quiet, 0 out of 10 for noise.

Sky deserves a shout-out for making check-in such a good experience. The room was spotless and really spacious. I’d thoroughly recommend this hotel, right in the heart of Derby.

The staff were great, and my room was clean and spacious. The main issue was the noise from people using the gym, which was right outside my door along the second-floor corridor.

The Engine Room is right by Derby bus station, so it was easy to get to. We went there last night for our work Christmas do, and the food was so good. The service was amazing too. Huge thanks to everyone, especially lovely Rosie and the other lady who brought our food and drinks and kept checking we had everything we needed all night. I highly recommend it!

I’d stayed here before, but the renovation made the entrance feel like a completely different place. The room was very comfortable.
