We came for our first visit to see Jason, who we knew from his previous pub, The Greyhound, and he's already started working his magic here. The service was excellent, the atmosphere pleasant, and the food superb. We had the carvery and were advised to try the Pork with Dauphinoise potatoes. Bloomin lovely. Worth the drive from Chesterfield, and we'll definitely be back.

We usually book a table for two to four of us every other Sunday, and the reservations have never caused a problem. The King's Highway has a cheerful, warm atmosphere and suits people of all ages who want to eat, drink and chat. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is consistently excellent. I especially love the carvery.

We were in town for the boxing on Saturday night and stayed at the hotel. It was warm and comfortable, and the staff were really friendly. The pub directly opposite was a nice extra. We didn't get to try the carvery this time, though it looked lovely. Derby centre is only a five-minute drive away, so I'd urge anyone coming to Derby to stay here.

The carvery was still hot and fresh when we ate at 7.45pm, just 15 minutes before service ended. I've been to places that stop replenishing as closing time approaches, but Chef Richard made sure everything was piping hot and fresh. The vegetable trimmings were fantastic, and those may have been the best roast potatoes I've had. Richard was so friendly and accommodating while serving the veg, and the waiting staff were great.

I only went to the restaurant, and was really pleased with the food and service. Everything was presented nicely, and the staff were friendly and knew their stuff. Cain served us, and the whole experience was hard to fault.
