The breakfasts are generous, with fruit platters and smoothies that could almost make you forget lunch, and Alison’s homemade cakes and tea are a lovely welcome for a tired traveller. Last time it was lemon drizzle, this visit a delicious chocolate cake. Her rooms are beautifully furnished and spotless, and her mum looks after things when Alison is away. The three friendly house cats, Laurel, Thelma and Louise, greet guests with purrs, headbutts and cuddles. This was my third visit to Bramlies Bed and Breakfast, where I stay whenever I’m in Dorchester for research or the Hardy Conference. Alison is a fabulous host who takes an interest in her guests and becomes a friend and guide away from home. I recommend Bramlies to all my friends visiting Dorchester.

My cousin’s son-in-law recommended this B&B, and it really is amazing. I have a below-knee amputation, so Alison put a stool in the shower for me. She’s such a lovely, friendly lady who went above and beyond. I’ll be back next year and hope to get the same room.

Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the quiet, secluded garden was a lovely spot to relax in the breeze. The hosts were welcoming and helpful, with plenty of information and suggestions if you wanted them. Our room was clean and comfortable, and my family of four, including two teenagers, did very nicely. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

The garden was lovely, and having the cats around was an added bonus. Alison and her mother looked after everything with real care, which you could feel. It was my first B&B and a great experience. The room was a decent size, neither large nor small, and being separate from the house gave us plenty of privacy. Breakfast was very good, and the location worked well for research at the Dorset History Centre.

We had the three-bed suite with a garden view, and our daughter was happy on the sofa bed in the outer room. The host was delightful and gave us useful local advice. Each morning there was a generous, tasty breakfast with a wide choice, including a different delicious homemade marmalade selection to try. A lovely base for exploring the Dorset countryside and coast.
