After a full day of reading by the roaring fire, the spa pool and hot tub were a lovely extra. Sarah the gardener is a real star. We had a wonderful two nights at this hidden gem, and felt right at home. It’s a traditional English hotel, with a lounge to settle into after a grand breakfast overlooking a beautiful country garden. The whole place is very well run, and Jack the GM clearly knows what he’s doing. The team were so friendly and kind, especially Phillip at breakfast, Bea at Reception and Jonathan, the evening French Bar Man and longest-standing staff member. Our package deal included one night eating at the lodge and another just down the road at the Inn. Head chef Ana made us a delicious meal there. I especially enjoyed the Scallops, the Homemade Fish Pie of the day and the Banana Go Go Cocktail, which I highly recommend. Amber was attentive, had a great rapport with me and understood my humour. Thank you to everyone for such a lovely stay.

Afterwards we had a peaceful stroll around the gardens, which were lovely and tranquil. I brought my Mother for Traditional afternoon tea as a present this week, and we both loved every minute. The sandwiches, cakes and cream tea were delicious. We were full, so luckily we could take a doggy bag home. We’ll come back, and maybe stay next time. Thank you.

The Master Bedroom is well worth choosing if you get the chance. We loved how opulent it felt, and it was just right for a milestone birthday treat. We came to Summer Lodge in early January to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday and chose the Perfect Stay package. The staff were friendly, helpful and approachable, and clearly dedicated to giving great service, even though it wasn’t a busy time for a luxury hotel. They kept the roaring fires going, which made the place warm and atmospheric, and there were thoughtful touches throughout. Every time I thought, “wouldn’t it be nice if...”, they’d already anticipated it. The food was excellent throughout. Breakfast at the hotel was perfect, with high quality local ingredients and great coffee. Dinner at Summer Lodge Restaurant was on a par with several Michelin-starred restaurants we’ve visited, and the service was impeccable. Afternoon Tea was good, served in the stunning Drawing Room with attentive service, and we appreciated being able to take our leftover cakes away. We also had a three-course dinner at the nearby Acorn Inn, owned by the same people. It was absolutely stunning, and the hotel supplied torches and umbrellas for the short walk. We enjoyed whiskey tasting with Jonathann, who was very knowledgeable, and had some lovely treatments at the spa. The package also included a very generous picnic, which we ended up enjoying on the journey home. Summer Lodge is old-school in a very pleasant way and utterly charming. For a luxury getaway with brilliant service and incredible food, it’s hard to do better. We’ll be back.

The staff really made the visit. Their warm smiles and care showed how proud they are to work there. They helped us settle in quickly and made us feel comfortable, so we could focus on ourselves. It was just what we needed. We’ve just had two nights here and, despite the dreadful weather, had a wonderful stay. The hotel is as comfortable, warm and relaxing as it looks in the photos. Thanks to each and every one of you.

There’s a nice selection of whiskeys to enjoy by an open fire, and the spa was nice too. We had great food at the hotel and at the lovely nearby Acorn Inn. Some things were a little overpriced, but that comes with the territory. It’s a beautiful old-fashioned luxury hotel, and both the rooms and service were amazing.
