HQ Bar & Restaurant

The restaurant was the opposite of the rest of our experience. We were at HQ Hotel in June 25, travelling in a larger group for the TT, and couldn’t find another hotel with availability, otherwise we would have moved. If I could give a negative rating, I would. Service was more than poor. Staff didn’t take our complaints seriously, and even after we raised them, nothing changed. The hotel says it’s four-star and states in its own materials that rooms are cleaned daily. Our room was never cleaned during the stay. The bed was occasionally made, but that isn’t the same as cleaning. We had to take out our own rubbish and arrange towels and toilet paper ourselves. This was unacceptable for a hotel claiming that standard, and made the stay very uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and definitely won’t return.

The friendly staff really helped make this a proper nice trip. Breakfast was great, especially the kippers, and I had a very good pint of Guinness in the bar. We’d booked two nights this weekend, then stayed an extra night when our flight was cancelled. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

We first tried the restaurant last week and were so impressed that we came back. Ash the manager and waitress B make an excellent team, and the service is spot on. The food is excellent too. I had the steak tonight, cooked and presented well, while my wife, who’s vegan, loved her choice. Can’t recommend it enough. Just book and try it, you won’t be disappointed.

We used to come here years ago for the Steak Nights, which were great value, so we chose the HQ Bar for the Early Burns Night. The food was good and the seating comfortable, with nice decor. The two staff on duty worked hard to get the three-course dinners out to everyone, and the service was very good. We got two whiskies during the meal. Dinner was meant to start at 7, but didn’t get going until after 7:30. We would have liked more mash and vegetables with the haggis. At £40 per person, it felt a bit expensive for what we got. Prices have gone up quite a bit.
