I had lunch here while I was in the area for a few days. The lentil soup and chicken kebab were delicious, and the portions were really generous. Staff were polite and friendly, and it’s a lovely hotel. The chips with his lordship’s gorgeous steak were frozen, though, and the Guinness was sadly a poor pint. Still, it was okay overall.

The service was pretty poor. We were left on our own after sitting down, so whenever we wanted another drink we had to go up to the bar, order, and wait there. Staff weren’t especially friendly, either. Food was decent, but quite a few things we wanted from the menu weren’t available, and one starter was a tiny portion.

The rooms were nice and warm, and the food was excellent. Staff were amazing too, really friendly and up for a laugh. It had a relaxed atmosphere, with good banter. Can’t say enough, I’ll definitely be back.

Ralph, the manager, has a proactive, helpful and attentive team, and the service is excellent. I’ve stayed at The Buccleuch and Queensbury Arms Hotel three times now, and have loved the food and ambience as well. I’d definitely recommend it for a stay or a meal in Dumfriesshire.

We tried the midweek set menu at £19.95 for two courses, with plenty of choices to pick from. The food was great, and the service very good. A lovely setting, and that sticky toffee pudding was exceptional.
