The eggs even felt fried, and breakfast was just okay. I was really disappointed with it. We’d paid for a king-size bed but got two singles pushed together, and they weren’t even the same height. We also had to get the room keys sorted because they failed to work on more than one occasion.

The beds felt like steel, the lift smelled like a urinal, and the front doors and bar had greasy glass. It’s a shame, because this beautiful High Street building has a grand lobby, an impressive staircase, huge rooms and high ceilings that speak to its Winston Churchill history. It could easily be on the “Scottish Hotels of Distinction” list, but there’s little proper Scottish decor to match. The owners clearly don’t care about the building, its location or what it could be. Sadly, it seems to be run by people who don’t understand any of that. This place needs owners who care and get what it is.

Great value, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Just a small gripe: our room door would bang even when it was shut if other nearby doors opened or closed in the corridor.

The Queens Hotel Dundee is a cherished landmark that reflects Dundee’s history and cultural heritage. Its beautiful architecture and place in the city’s past make it a reminder of the many happy occasions, celebrations and times of comfort people have shared there. The hotel adds something special to the cityscape and carries on a tradition of hospitality. In every corner and memory, it feels like Dundee’s past is still alive.
