The Fort Hotel

I booked one night, bed only, in a room at the Gillies suites across the road and can’t fault it. It was very clean, with a comfortable double bed, TV, WiFi, tea and coffee, and a modern shower room. There’s no overnight parking at the door, but plenty of spaces within a couple of minutes’ walk. I didn’t have breakfast or use the bar, so can’t comment on those. I’d happily go back.

Worst pub I’ve been to. I was out with my two sisters and a friend when a group of older people started shouting and swearing at us. One of them made my 18-year-old friend panic and cry, so I told the bouncer I was scared. He said we were fine, dealt with it and told us to move away, even though he said we hadn’t done anything wrong. We’d been there since 9 o’clock, but we were the ones told to move. We tried to leave, but the group wouldn’t let us. They physically pushed my friend so hard we had to hold her up, then tried to push my sister over too. The bouncers did nothing. Later we found out the group were the bouncers’ neighbours, which was probably why they weren’t kicked out. It was my first time there, and I’d never recommend going, unless you live near the bouncers, apparently.

We had a great weekend away with friends. The staff were really friendly, the rooms were clean and roomy, and the hotel bar had a good selection with attentive staff.

We stopped for lunch at the bar and ordered two small steak pies. Best steak pie in Broughty ferry.
