We’ve stayed at several Premier Inns and never had management or communication this poor. I felt sorry for the clearly overstretched staff. If you want anything beyond a bed, choose another hotel. We arrived Friday evening and were told there was no food in the bar because of staff shortages. It took over half an hour to get a drink, and the bar shut at 9:30. The hotel knew about the staffing problems but gave no advance notice. Breakfast wasn’t available Saturday morning for the same known issue. We’d booked a restaurant table for Saturday night and checked on Friday that it would be open. When we got back at 8pm, we were told neither the bar nor restaurant was open, so the booking couldn’t be honoured. With no other restaurants in walking distance, we had to take the children by taxi to another Premier Inn for food at 8:40pm. On Sunday, only a continental breakfast was available. Again, we weren’t told about the staffing issue until we arrived. I complained at the hotel and explained we could have stayed at a nearby Premier Inn for the same money, where food and drink were available. They told me to contact customer service. I waited a week, despite being promised a reply within 48 hours, then chased them. They blamed high demand, which made no sense: the bar was empty when we were there, and staff said they were short staffed. Our taxi driver said this was a common occurrence with this Premier Inn bar.

The pub next door was a letdown. There was no draught lager, possibly just a temporary issue. Dinner was OK, but breakfast service was painfully slow. It opens at 6.30am, and although three of us arrived then, our plated breakfast didn’t come until 7.15am. There was no buffet. People eat early because they need to get going quickly. The room itself was OK, with a comfy bed and working shower. Staff were very friendly, though the place felt a bit tired. It could be much better.

The family room was good value, with comfortable beds, and service was fine, though some reception staff were better than others. The rooms need renovating, and there was a slight smell in the corridors and bathroom, possibly from cleaning products. The location is a little out of the way but close to main roads, with easy access to shops and Newton Mearns. There’s a large pothole near the entrance from the main road.

The room was exactly what I needed and expected, and worked well for a Premier Inn stay. What I couldn’t accept was the cleaners in the rooms on both sides of mine banging about and shouting at 10am. Check out wasn’t until 12, and I was trying to sleep in and catch up after missing sleep for the last few days. A little courtesy would have helped.

We usually have good stays at Premier Inns, around 99% of the time, but this one was poor. Staff were fantastic and friendly throughout. I mentioned the problems at checkout, and after contacting customer service the next day, I was given a full refund. The room was filthy, with torn furniture, cracks in the ceilings and lots of mould in the bathroom. The hotel was busy because of a fighting event at a venue up the road, and there was loud shouting and drinking until after midnight. In the morning we found out the restaurant was being refurbished, so only a continental breakfast was available even though we’d paid for the full all you can eat option. Some of these issues need sorting so other guests aren’t affected.
