Greywalls Hotel & Chez Roux Restaurant

We won't be back, and we won't try any of Marine and Lawn's other venues either. This used to be a wonderful, unusual getaway, but since the chain Marine and Lawn bought it, the place has been ruined. It took almost a week just to arrange the booking. Calls went unanswered, and my emails and voicemails got no response until I finally reached someone at the hotel directly. Later, after hearing reports of very poor service here and at another hotel in the group, I tried to get some reassurance. I was told staff were mostly inexperienced, barely supervised, and too young to serve alcohol. That seemed desperately inappropriate for a venue charging premium rates. Once again, my messages went unanswered. By then I felt the new owners had made swingeing staffing cuts. We were about to spend nearly a thousand pounds on a two-night stay for two, and I was sure we would have been bitterly disappointed if we went ahead. I left voicemails and emails to cancel and asked for confirmation. Five days passed before I got a reply.

The gardens are lovely to wander through, and both the restaurant and breakfast were amazing, at the same high standard. We were looked after really well from the moment we arrived, thanks to very attentive staff. Fantastic hotel, well worth a visit!

The views from our soft bed in the golf wing were beautiful, and the interiors felt warm and comfortable. Javier and Craig were both very helpful and gave us excellent service. We had a lovely one-night stay in this beautiful hotel. A quiet, luxurious option for couples or solo travellers, and one I can highly recommend.

The lunch and wine pairings were incredible, with delicious food and very generous servings. The whole Cookery Demonstration and Lunch event with Michel Roux Jr at Greywalls Hotel and Chef Roux was relaxed and friendly, and the demonstration itself was excellent. All the staff were fabulous and made us feel very welcome. Everything was organised and run really well. We'd definitely recommend it, and we'll look out for it again in future.
