Hampton by Hilton Edinburgh Westend

We were satisfied with our three nights at Hampton by Hilton Edinburgh and would consider coming back. The hotel was modern, clean and comfortable, and our well-equipped room was quiet and cleaned each day. Staff were friendly, professional and helpful. Its location made it easy to walk to many of Edinburgh's main attractions. Breakfast was the one area that could be better. The range and quality felt quite limited, and improving it would make the stay perfect.

The staff were brilliant, friendly, chatty and very helpful. On our first evening, after a long travel day, the young Italian manager on shift gave us directions to find dinner, which we really appreciated. We also ate at the hotel's Lebanese restaurant and enjoyed it. We spent three nights here and my family and I were very happy with the stay. The rooms were a good size, clean and tidy, with everything we needed: an ironing board and iron, hair dryer, tea and coffee facilities, a decent bathroom and comfortable beds. We got fresh towels and a room clean after the second night. The bed itself was comfy, though the pillows felt flat and gave little support, with my head sinking into them. The location worked for us. Grassmarket was about a 15-minute walk, so town wasn't too far away. Breakfast was decent, with cooked and continental options plus waffles, a welcome change from pancakes at other hotels. I'd happily stay again when I visit Edinburgh.

The bed was a pleasant surprise, really comfortable. We had a double room with a sofa, and it felt spacious and comfortable, with nice local decoration on the walls. It was good value too. Breakfast was as expected, and the waffle maker was a hit. The area was fine, around a 20-minute walk to the city centre. A couple of towels had a funny smell despite looking clean. Breakfast could also feel like musical chairs: if you left the table to get more food, someone might take it. It was busy, though, so understandable.

The Lebanese restaurant on site was lovely, the cocktails were great, and breakfast was very good. Staff were genuinely nice. It's a great hotel all round, though getting to the centre involves a bit of walking, so bear that in mind if mobility is an issue.
