We had a lovely roast on Sunday and delicious food in general, including a fantastic breakfast with homemade hash browns, butcher’s sausages, thick bacon and huge portions. The staff across the restaurant, bar and housekeeping were so friendly and hardworking, and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spotless, with a cosy 6 ft bed, crisp white linen, posh coffee bags, several teas, hot chocolate, Border biscuits, milk sachets, oat milk, natural complimentary toiletries and big fluffy towels. The hotel is incredibly cheap for the lovely stay we had, and I’m already thinking about rebooking. The car park is small and tight, but we managed to park every day. The cars are secured behind a big steel shutter gate, and the hotel gives you the padlock number. Parking is free. I worried after reading Tripadvisor reviews, but needn’t have; I wonder what people expect from an older building. There’s always some ridiculous moaner with unrealistic expectations, tut tut.

We had a really pleasant stay and would happily recommend it or come back. The old building has plenty of history, and although our room had sash windows, we didn’t find it noisy. Frome town centre was a great base for our night out at the Cheese and Grain. Staff were friendly and very helpful, and when the shower and heating gave us trouble, they sorted it quickly and efficiently. There was a good menu, including a smaller plate option that suited me. The food was tasty and nicely presented, and breakfast had plenty of choice and was delicious too. The breakfast staff were lovely and happy to help.

We stayed four nights with our excitable dog, and would absolutely return. The staff were helpful even before we arrived, when I phoned to check a few things, and consistently friendly and professional during our stay. They arranged breakfast seating each morning so everyone would be comfortable because our dog is reactive around other dogs. They even fussed her and gave her a little breakfast of her own, so she rates The George Hotel & Granary 5/5. Sorry again for accidentally setting off the fire alarm and waking everyone so early that day. The building is beautiful, with the older features you’d expect in a listed property. Our room was clean and a decent size. The beds were a bit soft for me, but my companion and the dog were perfectly happy with them. Breakfast had great options, and I appreciated the lactose free yoghurt and gluten free choices.

For the price and location, this is easily the best value hotel in the area, and we’d come back. We stayed two nights in a clean balcony room with tasteful decor that suited the property’s age. The bed was huge and super comfortable, breakfast was lovely and good value, and all the staff we met were very friendly, especially the manager. There’s parking at the back, but it’s first come, first served, and the space is tight, so you need to be a confident driver. The balcony was lovely for people watching, though the road at the front can be noisy for light sleepers. One other snag: the bedside plugs weren’t regular plugs, so we couldn’t charge our phones near the bed. Thank you for a lovely stay ❤️

The decor could use an update, but the hotel is very clean and the bed is comfortable. The food is excellent, especially breakfast, and there’s a good choice of hot drinks in the room. After three nights, I could see that the charming, helpful staff made up for what the decor lacks. Special thanks to Vicky and Wayne.
