Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel

My mother was a patient at the hospital, so I stayed here with her. The room was large, had everything needed for a night, and we slept well. The decor was basic, and some furnishings looked shabby and a bit tired. Breakfast was good for the price, but dining at the Bar and Grill was disappointing. The food was bland, and we weren't sure it was cooked fresh rather than bought in. Residents do get a 20% discount. Staff were the main downfall: nobody explained anything about our stay at check-in, which led to an embarrassing situation at breakfast. Even hotel guests need to book breakfast. Only one staff member seemed cheerful and like he was enjoying his job. We wouldn't pay to stay as guests again.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean and pleasant. The room was big, but the bed wasn't great, and I had to fix the shower trap because it was about to overflow. It's handy for the hospital next door, and there's a 20% dining discount if you're using the hospital. I didn't use the pool, so can't comment on it. I booked through hotelsone, and although it looked like I was booking directly, I wasn't. I got no confirmation from hotelsone and had to contact the hotel to make sure the booking was there. Booking direct usually has deals that are just as good or better.

The restaurant was a real highlight, and the hotel's close to ScotRail connections, which made it easy to get around and reach different destinations. Staff were superb, attentive without being intrusive. My room was clean, quiet, and very comfortable after a day out. I felt safe and at ease travelling solo. The fresh water dispensers were often empty and weren't refilled consistently. Apart from that, I had a genuinely pleasant stay, and the four-star rating felt deserved. I'd choose this hotel again.

The Golden Jubilee Hotel was very comfortable, and the food was high quality. I had breakfast and dinner there twice. The staff were the standout, from reception through to the bar and restaurant, friendly and professional. The steak pie was exceptional. A very good stay.
