Holiday Inn City Centre Theatreland

I needed to be near the bus and train stations, and this hotel worked well for that. The bar, restaurant and reception area are nice, and my room was really comfortable. Although it's on a busy road, I heard no outside noise. I didn't eat in the restaurant, but I had a drink at the bar when I arrived. I'd stay here again.

We stopped for one night with the dog. Two adults' room and breakfast cost £65, which I thought was a great price. Breakfast was help yourself, with hot and cold food to suit everyone. The staff were lovely, and there's a multi-storey car park opposite that cost £12 for 24 hours with the hotel discount. The location was okay, about a 10-minute walk, if that, to the shops, though all the road and building works around the hotel weren't great. I did think the extra £30 for the dog was excessive. I'd only paid £25 extra for a whole week with him in a lodge in Oban.

The staff were friendly, and it was easy to leave our luggage. The rooms are nice enough, nothing fancy, but they do the job. It's in a great location. Breakfast was just okay: the selection was fine, but some of it wasn't the best quality.

We booked two rooms, and neither had working AC when we checked in. Staff looked for alternatives but said all the rooms were booked, and initially offered rooms on different floors. We insisted on rooms close together. In the end, they put us on the same floor, though the rooms were still far apart. The staff were unfriendly throughout, gave inconsistent explanations and interrupted us while we were speaking. They even claimed it was already a "good gesture" to look for rooms with working AC.
