St Ronan's Hotel

I felt right at home here. It's a clean, simple hotel with good breakfast and service delivered with a heartfelt smile. The bar is quaint, a nice spot for a beer and a friendly chat with locals.

Our rooms were huge, clean and had tea and coffee facilities, with plenty of space for us and our dogs. The old building has lots of character, and the downstairs bar was welcoming. We found it handy that there was a door from downstairs straight out to the garden, so we didn't have to keep going through the bar. You can secure the garden by closing the gate, which was useful when the dog needed out during the night. The little car park at the back was great on a busy road through town. Staff were friendly and helpful, and left breakfast for us because we had to leave before it was served, which we really appreciated. We'd stay again if we're in the area.

Once you reach the room, the quality of the fittings is a real surprise. The bed was comfy, the bathroom a decent size, and the beer wasn't bad either. We got a friendly welcome, but inside the building looks a bit old and tired. For example, the upstairs handrail needs painting.

The beer garden was lovely and spacious, and we were sorry to leave this place. It's family run, and the owners went above and beyond with the care and service they gave us. There's no restaurant at present, but the room price includes a free breakfast cooked to order just how you like it, and the quality was exceptional. If you're hungry later, the owners' extended family runs the pub two doors down, with great food and drink deals. The rooms have been renovated to be as comfortable and lovely as possible. If you have trouble walking through the friendly local bar, which is full of dogs, there's a separate street entrance to reach your room. We hope to return soon!
