I hate leaving a bad review, but this was horrible. We booked through booking.com and weren't told anywhere, not even by email, that we'd have to pay at the door. The room was disgusting, dusty everywhere, with what looked like mold on skirting boards coming away from the wall and a strange brown carpet stain. At least the bed was clean, but lowering it was a struggle: it made a horrible grinding noise and got stuck halfway. The toilet and bed were in the same room, separated by a flimsy, semi-transparent door with a big gap down the side, which felt immediately uncomfortable. There was no hot water, kettle, tea, or anything, just a feeling that you were meant to buy coffee on the top floor. The room was ridiculously hot. The air vents were filthy and dusty, and at night we smelled weed coming through them and heard other people showering so loudly that we checked our own shower. The lights kept switching off by themselves. The only lighting was in the toilet and a cheap book light beside the bed, so we had to get up every few minutes to turn the lights back on. When leaving, we got stuck in the revolving doors and had to push them ourselves, apparently because the hotel is energy affordable or something. The cooler was no help either. It's supposed to keep already-cold drinks cold, but ours came out warm. Another disappointment.

Breakfast was decent for a continental spread, with a good enough selection and quality. The compact room was clever in its layout, very clean, and comfortable, especially the bed. The hotel has a modern, clean feel and seems well thought out. Its location is convenient for walking to the city centre, shops, restaurants, and transport. The room light wasn't working, though that didn't bother me much since I was there just one night and mainly wanted to sleep. I could hear water running through the pipes when the person next door used the shower or tap. It didn't really affect my stay, but it's worth mentioning.

We were glad to leave in the morning, after having to make our way past addicts between reception's front door and the train station. The Yotel idea feels very strange, and this was our last time using them. Maybe I'm getting old! Staff in the Glasgow hotel were friendly, unlike the rude and uninterested staff at Yotel Edinburgh, where we'd spent a couple of nights just before this stay. Glasgow, though, was noisy and disruptive all night. There was loud dance music and strobe lighting in the LG lift, which felt so cheesy, then shouting and other guests making noise until about 3:30am. One argument got loud and concerning enough that my partner felt unsafe. Bar staff were fine, and breakfast was decent. The electrics seemed to have problems too. The room lights switched themselves off twice, and the TV kept turning itself on after we repeatedly switched it off. Eventually we gave up and slept with it on, like a huge nightlight for grown-ups. The room was even smaller than Yotel Edinburgh, which I'd already compared to a phone box. This one was more like a shoebox. We got a discount by booking both stays together. You'd have to be mentally unstable to pay full rates for these places!

The city view room lived up to what I'd booked, overlooking Oswald Street, and leaving the blinds open overnight meant I woke to a lovely sunrise. I was there alone for a one-night photography trip on 2nd January. The room had a quirky, modern feel, with an adjustable electric bed and floor-to-ceiling windows that made the city outside feel close. The bathroom sink sat right by the window, as did the desk for working. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. It was a really nice stay for the price, and you can't get much more central if you're after something a bit different.

The room was spotless, with lots of clothes storage, a fridge I hadn't expected, and a great shower. The huge towels and little touches like a bottle opener were nice. We liked being able to change the bed position for sitting up or lying down, and had a comfortable night's stay. There wasn't a table to eat dinner at, the TV remote didn't work, and the lighting was awful. Having to cross the room in the middle of the night to switch on the toilet light wasn't ideal. Staff could have been friendlier and acknowledged guests more, they need to cheer up. Still, the hotel was lovely and we'd stay again.
