I booked a twin room through Hotels.com, where the terms clearly said I'd pay on arrival. When we got there, the owner was extremely rude and said the room wasn't available because I hadn't left a deposit or called to confirm. Neither requirement had been mentioned in the online booking. He blamed us, used personal insults and questioned how he was meant to know we were coming. After a tense back-and-forth, and with few other options nearby, we had to take a double and a single room for £120 instead of the quoted £76. He refused our request for a discount and again said it was our fault. We've tried to get a refund through Hotels.com, but the owner wouldn't approve it. When we contacted the hotel directly, we got no response. Hotels.com confirmed we'd followed the booking terms, yet we still lost money because the hotel didn't honour the reservation. After filing a formal complaint and threatening legal action as advised by CAB, I eventually got the difference refunded. It took a lot of work, and I'd still avoid this place. A confirmed booking shouldn't come with unlisted conditions. Book somewhere else if you want peace of mind.

Back in 2019, I booked my friend a three-week stay at the Shamrock Hotel. They were coming over from Jamaica for my graduation, and we were pleased with the service for the price. The room and the area around it were clean, pleasant and peaceful. A woman came in every day to clean the room and shower. At check-in, the gentleman at reception was polite and very professional. Based on our experience, we'd have no hesitation recommending this place.

I've stayed at plenty of hotels in Dartford and Kent since starting my career, but this is honestly my favourite. The owner is always welcoming and helpful, the area is lovely, and it's well connected to popular shops and to Dartford and London. Prices are very affordable for the quality. It feels like home here, and I'm slowly becoming a regular.

I usually don't spend time writing reviews, but people should know about Shamrock. I've backed this up with pictures. The whole place smelled of smoke, and the furniture had burn marks. Everyone was smoking. With all the carpets, it seems like a fire could happen someday, especially if the smoke sensors aren't working. The microwave was rusty and stained, and smelled of at least five different meals. There was fungus in the fridge. The Wi-Fi was basically nonexistent. If you could connect, the speed was very slow and it kept disconnecting. I wasn't logged on any book when I arrived, so countrywise, I've never been there. The shower pressure was poor, water leaked from the shower head, and the plastic door was broken. By day two the drain was clogged. The bed only had a fitted sheet and duvet cover, and the cover came up short. If you're 1.80m tall, your feet might be left uncovered. I get that the place is affordable, but there should still be some basic attention to health and safety.
