I needed a cheap room at short notice near the sea, and this worked perfectly. It’s on the second road back from the coast, with the town within walking distance. Quiet time starts at 9 pm, so it’s not right for stag dos or parties, but that suited us. Dogs are welcome if you let them know beforehand.

The location was the only part I’d call okay. The beach is a five minute walk away, and there’s plenty to do nearby. The service was poor. We were told to be quiet all the time, which is hard with a family of six, including four children. The person changing towels shouted at me because she couldn’t find them, even though they were on the edge of the bed. Our sheets weren’t changed and had coffee or hot chocolate stains on them. The beds were very uncomfortable, the bathroom was tiny, and when water was used it smelled of chlorine. The shower smelled of sewage, and there was limescale everywhere. Animal hair was all over the place. We had two rooms, and both kettles were unusable because the metal on the heating elements was flaking off into the water. The whole hotel felt unhygienic and unpleasant. We were also complained about once for laughing a little loudly, while the people upstairs were stomping and running around and their dogs were barking. The rules on the door were very strict, including no eating or drinking in the rooms, so it felt like you couldn’t do anything there. The photos on booking.com look nothing like the hotel rooms. That listing said four stars, but elsewhere I’ve seen it called two stars. I do have high standards, as I’ve always stayed in 4-7 star hotels, which is understandable. One positive thing: my sister accidentally left her phone outside and someone put it through the mailbox. That was a personal kindness, not really the hotel, but the manager kept it safe in his room. I also found it odd that the manager was always in his pyjamas, and a paper outside said the workers had gone to work and to call a number in an emergency.

I paid £70 a night and got no sleep, with no bar, restaurant or breakfast either. The room itself was okay, but the place felt more like a hostel than a hotel. There’s a rule against alcohol in the rooms, which is fair enough, and the notice board says quiet hours are 9.00pm to 9.00am. The people next door kept me awake until 3.00am, though. Their bloke left at 2.50 a.m. and clearly wasn’t even staying there. I’d booked two nights but left after the first, absolutely exhausted 😫. A complete disgrace 😑

The room was a decent size, with a really comfortable bed, and the staff were lovely. The bathroom was very small, but the shower was decent and everything was very clean. Good value for the price, and I’d come back.

We stayed over Easter with our two young children, and they struggled to sleep because the people upstairs banged around for hours during the stated 9pm-9am quiet period. Some of the house rules made sense, but that one clearly wasn’t being followed. The shower was awful, so neither child had a shower during our stay. They also tried to take £230, and the payment is still pending today, leaving us with less money for the weekend. We won’t stay again.
