The White Buck Inn

The hotel did a magnificent job hosting my niece’s wedding reception. It was a busy Saturday night, but the evening wasn’t spoiled, and the staff were friendly. Service was slow, though once the pre-ordered food started arriving, there was very little delay and everyone could eat together. I chose the pie of the day, which turned out to be steak. It was a little dry, and the gravy was somewhat salty. The apple and plum crumble was lovely, but it was missing the crumble topping, which is my favourite part. Well done, and thanks to all the staff at the White Buck.

We had dinner at the restaurant, which is quite expensive, but the food was excellent. Breakfast was superb too. My wife, our two boys and I stayed one night in beautifully decorated, comfortable rooms. The beer left in the room and a few biscuits were nice little touches. We’ll certainly visit again.

Whenever I’m visiting family in the New Forest, this is my favourite place to eat. The staff are fantastic and the food is amazing. Last Saturday I had my birthday meal here with five other people. The beef short rib crumpet was to die for, the game stew was perfect, and the wine was great. My only tiny quibble, not really a complaint, is that the crumble was too big for me to finish.

We stopped for one night to break up the long drive from Cornwall to Sussex and really enjoyed it. The venison and hummous sharing dish was one of the meal’s highlights, so it was a shame to hear it wasn’t popular and might be removed from the menu. Staff should suggest it when guests sit down. All the food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hunter-style decor was nicely done, and the room was spacious, clean and tastefully decorated, with a modern bathroom, a large walk-in shower and a very comfortable big bed. There was even a complimentary beer in the room. The bar had big open fires, though it still felt a little cold despite them. There’s a games room on one side and a well-designed restaurant on the other. We’d definitely stay again.
