We went on a Saturday late afternoon in early November. The board had lots of spiced pumpkin dishes that sounded lovely, but we can't eat spicy food for health reasons, so I chose the rainbow trout, the fish dish of the week. We also had a beef burger and fries, and everything was delicious. The chips and fries were especially good, crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The food and plates were really hot, so the meal stayed warm right to the last bite. It's a cosy, traditional English pub, with a fireplace lit in the sofa area, though not in the dining room. There’s parking behind the pub. Service was good too. It did feel chilly inside, though. We ended up using our scarves as shawls, and I kept my wool hat on.

We'd driven past for years before finally stopping, and I can't believe we waited so long. The food was amazing, the service was great, and this place is a hidden gem worth a visit.

We had a long company lunch at this charming pub, run by a Jamaican chef. Everyone cleared their plates: I had a huge beer-battered cod and chips, while the rest of the group had jerk chicken, curry goat and sweet potato. We all enjoyed dessert too, especially the baked cheesecake. The food was excellent, and I'd highly recommend it.

I travel away from home a lot for work, and last week I found this place as a quieter spot to stay outside the city bustle. Jazz sorted out easy access to a key for my late check-in, and the room was just what I hoped for: warm and country-style, very clean, with a wonderfully comfortable bed. Breakfast was cooked to order, and there was a hot shower in the morning. I liked it enough to book again this week, then tried dinner too. The king prawn coconut dish on the specials board was amazing, cooked to order with care and Jamaican authenticity. It's such a welcoming village pub, and even the locals are charming. A rare find I'd recommend to anyone. Pubs need our support, especially Freehold. If you're nearby or passing through, give it a visit. It was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I wish I lived closer. Thanks, Jazz 👌

A nice local pub with a Caribbean kitchen and tasty curry dishes. The menu is very limited, though, and could use a couple of vegetarian options. Caribbean desserts are missing too, and adding some would be a nice touch.
