The fish was the highlight: a thick, beautifully white piece of haddock with really crisp batter, one of the best we’ve had. We were glad we’d booked for Monday lunch because it was very busy. The pub is right in the centre of Hebden Bridge, though parking is limited and tricky. We each had regular fish and chips for £17. The skin-on chips were chewy rather than crisp, which wasn’t to our taste. I had garden peas, my partner had mushy peas, and we shared a tasty curry sauce for £2.50, though it was a little runny. We were too full for dessert.

We only shared a starter, but it was beautiful, and the food looked incredible. There was an offer on the specials board, too. The place was spotless, and the staff were smartly dressed, friendly and great. It’s ideally placed near all the amenities. The rooms, both inside the pub and restaurant and out the back, looked fabulous. Such a gorgeous, impressive place. We’ll definitely be back.

The pub’s warm, cosy interior and friendly staff were lovely, and the food was tasty. Still, it didn’t feel like good value for what we got, which is a shame. I’d bought Mum a gift voucher beforehand and am now slightly regretting it. We waited 10 minutes for drinks and 40 for our main. We needed the full 90 minutes before our table was due back just to eat two courses and have one drink each. We weren’t avoiding ordering more, but nobody checked in to ask. After waiting a while, I finally went up to the desk to pay.

The room was finished to a high standard, and the bed was the comfiest we had on our road trip through similar old coaching inns. This place had a noticeably more modern feel. Breakfast was excellent, and the cosy bar was a nice spot to spend a few hours. The location is great, and all the staff were great too. The car park was an adventure, but parking is free if you manage to find a space.

The food was delicious, and there was a lovely atmosphere with a fire going downstairs. Although it’s right in town, it was quiet at night. All the staff were very friendly. We had a lovely one-night stay and were pleasantly surprised that our room had been redecorated. It looked more modern than the photos. We’ll be back!
