The Old Hall Hotel

After a brutal hike, a Sunday roast was exactly what I was hoping for, and this one was amazing. The pub had the fires going and a great atmosphere, with food and drinks at reasonable prices. The staff were working flat out but still so attentive to everyone. Definitely a must have, and I'll be back before long.

The Old Hall Hotel made us feel like regular Sunday visitors from the moment we arrived, even though we were just passing through. The staff were friendly, chatty and genuinely lovely. I went for the famous steak and Old Peculier ale pie with chips, garden peas and rich, glossy gravy. It was hearty, full of flavour, piping hot and freshly made, with real care behind it. We shared an apple pie afterwards, warm and simple, and absolutely delicious. A charming place, with welcoming people and great food. I'd happily return.

After a motor vehicle accident, I ended up needing a place to stay overnight, in a four-poster bed suite. We checked in at 2am, and Rick the barman felt I'd been through enough to deserve a couple of complimentary pints. I had a full English breakfast in the morning. Later, while I was struggling with PTSD, a member of the tearoom staff went out of her way to reassure me. She brought me coffee in the afternoon and made sure I got my free refill. We hadn't booked here, but ended up coming in on New Year's Day after a disappointing experience at the nearby Curry Cabin, where we'd originally reserved dinner. We were very glad we did. The dining room had a lovely atmosphere, the staff were kind and friendly, and the meal was really good. I was too full to try the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was my only disappointment. I'll be back for it next time. Highly recommend.
